PICO – Presenting Interactive COntent®

PICO is short, precise, and scientific. PICO combines the advantages of both oral and poster presentations in an innovative type of presentation which provides the opportunity to interact with the audience. Every PICO author first presents their work orally. Afterwards, all session attendees have enough time to watch the presentation again, to hold discussions with the author and with their colleagues, and to network.

A PICO presentation might be a PowerPoint presentation, a movie, an animation, or simply a PDF showing your research. A PICO session takes place at the PICO spot, where there is space for an audience in front of a screen as well as for a number of touch screen displays (PICO screens). The PICO session starts with a 2-minute madness, where all authors present the essence of their work in 2 minutes each. In addition, there is a reserved time slot for one PICO presentation to provide a 10-minute introduction. After this, the audience uses the PICO screens at the PICO spot to view the PICO presentation(s) that they are interested in again. Authors stand next to their assigned screen to show their PICO presentation. A PICO presentation should be composed in such a way as to fulfil both requirements, i.e. the 2-minute overview as well as the extensive viewing afterwards, in one file. To give you an idea of how your PICO could look, please see the PowerPoint presentation of Stolk et al. (2013), which was presented at the EGU General Assembly 2013.
