Financial Support
General Information
In principle, it is expected that authors of contributions, which have been scheduled for presentation, will secure their participation in the conference on their own without any financial assistance provided by the organization; it is therefore expected that the "Abstract Submission or Update/Correction & Withdrawal" forms are used in general!
However, a limited amount of the overall budget of the conference is reserved to assist, first of all, the younger and more recently established scientists to attend the assembly; moreover, conveners may want to support the one or the other solicited speaker of their session (see below). The financial support may include waiving of the registration fees and/or support for the travel expenditures.
Important Remarks
- Each support award is given for a particular contribution. Should this contribution be withdrawn before the meeting or should this contribution not be presented at the meeting although the author who has been awarded is present at the meeting, the award has to be returned, i.e. the author in question will be asked to register and, if necessary, to pay back the money received.
- Awards cannot be transferred!
Public Application
Currently, the European Geosciences Union runs three different financial support schemes:
Young Scientist's Travel Award for Europeans (YSTA)
This award includes a free registration. Depending on the decision of the Support Committee an additional financial support for the travel expenditures with a maximum of 300,- EUR could be granted as well. Important remark: Only the granted amount mentioned in the financial support letter will be paid out to the supported contact author personally during the EGU General Assembly 2008.
Adrian Gill Travel Award (AGTA)
for a young scientist from Britain to take part in a session of the Atmospheric Sciences or Ocean Sciences programme.
Keith Runcorn Travel Award for Non-Europeans (KRTA)
This award includes a free registration. Depending on the decision of the Support Committee an additional financial support for the travel expenditures with a maximum of 500,- EUR could be granted as well. Important remark: Only the granted amount mentioned in the financial support letter will be paid out to the supported contact author personally during the EGU General Assembly 2008.
Scientists, who wish to apply for financial support must be the principal author of their contribution, and they must submit an abstract by the deadline date and click the respective award they wish to apply for in their submittal information of their abstract. Only max. one application per contributions is allowed!
For the submission of your abstract/application for financial support, please use the link "Call-for-Papers" under "Programme", select the part of the programme you would like to submit an abstract to, and study the respective session/event list and the aims and scope of the session(s)/event(s) of interest carefully beforehand. Then use the link "Abstract Submission with Support Application" amongst the "Public Links" of your session/event in question.
Conveners' Application
Conveners may apply directly for financial support on behalf of a specific speaker of their session by using the button "Support Ranking" below the title of their session in the programme. Thereby, they may also select "Waiver of Conference Fee" or even ask for a specific amount of money to assist the participation of a particular speaker. The deadline is the "Deadline for Ranking by Conveners"!
Evaluation
Abstracts of applications for financial support are very critically reviewed by the respective conveners and then, together with the applications made directly by the conveners, by the Support Selection Committee in view of their excellence and importance for the meeting. Although the budget for the support programme is quite reasonable, not every session will get an award or will be supported otherwise!
