Transportation from Budapest to Héviz

1. The conference bus

The conference bus will depart on the 28th August at 5 pm from Budapest, Eotvos Loránd University, Lágymányos Campus, Southern Building, H-1117, Budapest, 11th district, Pazmany Peter st. 1/C, and will arrive at the hotel in time for dinner and icebreaker. Conference participants can come and wait for the bus departure at the university campus in the Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences in the “Southern” building. There will be a room for you with refreshments from the morning 28 August. In case would you arrive earlier you can leave your luggage at the university and go for a walk. Gellert Hill with spectacular view to the city is nearby or just visit Budapest downtown and come back before the conference bus departure.

To get from Budapest Liszt Ferenc airport to Eotvos University Lagymanyos Campus use public transportation or taxi. Travelling by taxi takes ca. 30 minutes and costs ca. 27 euros. Public transportation takes ca. 1 hour. The public airport shuttle bus 100E takes passengers directly to the city centre. From the bus stop Kalvin Ter one needs to tram 47 or metro line M4 and change in Ujbuda Kozpont stop to tram 4 or bus 153 or 154. Note that Bus 100E requires a separate ticket costing around 1500 Huf (€3.50); for all other buses (including 200E, which also reaches the airport), trams and metro lines the normal tickets are valid (~€1.00).

2. Public bus services

There are buses from Budapest city centre (Népliget Bus Station) to Héviz (~350m from the hotel). The fastest is Bus 1188 (~2h10; at 8:00, 10:00, 12:00 & 18:00) followed by Bus 1194 (~3h; at 14:15 & 22:00) then 1212 (~3h30; at 09:25 & 19:40). To get from the airport to Népliget Bus Station use either the private Flibco shuttle bus (every 30 minutes taking 30 minutes, cost €9.00, reservable online at flibco.com), a combination of public bus 100E or 200E plus metro, or a taxi.

3. Train services

Direct trains connect Budapest (Déli or Kelenföld stations) and Keszthely (8 km from Heviz) (duration 2h30; every hour). From Keszthely station a local public bus or taxi is recommend to reach Ensana Hotel Heviz. Detailed schedule and online ticket purchase: https://www.mavcsoport.hu/en

To get from the airport to the train station use either the private Flibco shuttle bus to Budapest-Déli (every 30 minutes taking 1h30, cost €9.00, reservable online at flibco.com), a combination of bus 100E or 200E plus metro to Budapest-Kelenföld, or a taxi.

4. Private transfer service

Private transfer service (taxi, minibus etc.) can be purchased from the conference hotel: res.he@hu.ensanahotels.com as well as various private companies. A google search indicates prices starting at about €135.00 for a car and €175.00 for an 8-passenger van. To facilitate ride sharing we can link participants with others who are arriving in a similar time window, if requested.

5. Rent a car

It takes about 2 hours 15 minutes to drive a car from the airport to conference hotel. (Note: buses are limited to 80 km/h so take longer). If you plan to do this and have spare seat(s) please let us know in case other participants are looking for a ride.

Transportation from Heviz to Budapest

To the Airport

Two conference buses will depart from the conference hotel to Budapest Liszt Ferenc airport at around 9 am on Friday, 2 September and in case of no disturbance will arrive at ca. 12.30. Depending on the flight times of participants we may stagger these buses (e.g., one at 8 am, one at 10 am).

Participants with morning flights will have to leave the hotel very early (recommendation: 5 hours before the flight departure time) or the previous evening. If necessary, we can arrange groups to share private taxis/minibuses. With public transportation, the earliest it is possible reach the airport is 09:00 and requires changing 3 times.

To the City Centre

It is recommended to catch Bus 1188, which leaves 350m from the hotel to Budapest city centre at 09:25 & 11:25 (duration 2h35).
