Information - SSS24 Soil organic matter – cycling of elements and characterization of stable C pool(s) (co-listed in BG)
Event Information
The stable soil carbon pools are still the most obscure and ill-defined component of SOM, although they comprise the major proportion of SOM. There is uncertainty on the size as well as the composition of the stable pool(s). Major achievements have been made in recent years by combining structural characterization of SOM fractions with turnover or radiocarbon measurements of specific fractions. The symposium intends to stimulate this dialogue between the different approaches. Contributions adding to our knowledge on the characteristics and size of the stable C pool(s) in different soil types are welcome.
