Information - HS49 Urban impacts on soils and groundwater: From infiltration processes to integrated urban water management (co-listed in SSS)
Event Information
Soils and groundwater in urban areas are under increased pressure due
to the concentrated human activities like industrial production,
transportation and housing. Quantity and quality of urban groundwater
are affected by several kinds of interactions between the urban water
systems and urban groundwater. Among these influences are groundwater
abstraction for water supply purposes, groundwater pollution and human
induced groundwater recharge by waste water systems (e.g. sewer or
stormwater leaks) or new decentralized disposal strategies like on-site
grey water or stormwater infiltration. Integrated urban water
management includes also socio-economic aspects as a very important
component which is controlling the implementation of future management
strategies.
Within the proposed session investigations on the quantification of
water fluxes and water quality in urban water systems including soils
and groundwater could be presented. Abstracts about interactions
between groundwater and surface water as well as urban hydrology
regarding groundwater quality are very welcome, and presentations on
integrated urban water management including socio-economic aspects are
of high interest.
