Information - HS6 Experimental River Basins

Event Information
The experimental basins of different sizes from 1 km2 to several 1,000 km2 are field laboratories with sophisticated long-term measurements of hydrological processes. They are not only sources of data but also sources of knowledge. The session will focus on the presentation and discussion of recent developments in the experimental basin measurements and research. Welcome are especially papers on recent very well documented research activities in the experimental basins at different scales using new and advanced computerized equipment and oriented into interdisciplinary measurements campaigns dealing not only with hydrological and meteorological data but incorporating also ecological and morphological observations as well as socio-economical information.
The scope of the session is to provide an overview of:
(i) recent ongoing measurements in the experimental river basins throughout Europe (or elsewhere)
(ii) gathered experiences using new equipment and measurement techniques
(iii) impact of different measures on water regime in the experimental basins recognized by field measurements
(iv) unusual and unexpected hydrological phenomena recognized by measurements that could not be explain by existing theoretical considerations
(v) gaps in knowledge on integrated basin responses to present and future impacts
(vi) integrated multidisciplinary data collection and data management from experimental basins for European (world) wide research purposes
Of particular interest are investigations focusing on experimental basins with interdisciplinary measurements. A round table about the future development and possibility of cooperation and exchange of equipment and know-how will be organized.
