Information - AS1.06 Variability and predictability of the coupled stratosphere-troposphere system (co-listed in CL)
Event Information
Our understanding of the relationship between the extra-tropical
stratosphere and troposphere has been radically changed in recent years. It
is now widely accepted that the stratosphere is not a passive absorber of
tropospheric planetary wave activity, but has an active role in influencing
the tropospheric climate system. We seek submissions which investigate all
aspects of coupling between the stratosphere and troposphere on all
timescales between extended range forecasting and climate variability
and climate change. In particular, we are interested in papers which propose
and test dynamical explanations for observed coupling between the
stratosphere and troposphere. In addition, we welcome papers which attempt
to use observed stratosphere-troposphere coupling to improve extended-range
and seasonal tropospheric forecasts and those which discuss the impact of
stratospheric climate changes on the troposphere.
