  Information - HS14 Water Management in mountain basins (including environmental flow) (co-listed in CR)

Event Information
Mountain areas are characterised by a marked spatial variability of geomorphological features, hydrological parameters and of the meteorological variables driving the water cycle. Water resources are abundant there and rivers have high kinetic energy but water resources in mountains are very sensitive to weather and climate fluctuations. Today, compared to a few decades ago, environmental constraints are increasing whilst conflicts over the use of water for water supply, irrigation, hydropower needs and the natural ecosystem are now more evident.
This session will focus on scientific problems related to water management in mountain areas. The aim is to share research results and ideas about techniques and methods related to the hydrology of mountain regions.
Papers on the following topics are particularly welcome:
-prediction of water resource availability and demand under climate change scenarios;
-minimum low flows to be maintained for the aquatic ecosystem;
-compensation for local population in exchange for rights of water use;
-environment-friendly solutions for regulation and management of reservoirs.
