Information - NP6.05 Turbulence in the Atmosphere and Ocean (co-listed in AS & OS)

Event Information
The purpose is to focus upon the effects of turbulence at different
scales in geophysical flows. The importance of a proper
parametrization of turbulence in the Atmosphere and Oceans is very
important in order to model correctly transport processes. Gaussian
diffusion models are too simplistic and the effect of coherent
structures and body forces like stratification and rotation need to
be considered. For example the role of stratification in vertical
mixing is to flatten Reynolds stresses but a detailed knowledge of
the influence of the flow topology on mixing efficiency on transport
and on diffusion is still needed. Papers are welcomed in theoretical,
numerical, field work and experimental contributions dealing with
Turbulence in Geophysical and Environmental flows. Advanced Methods of
analysis, such as higher order structure function analysis, intermittency
studies, vorticity and helicity cascades, etc.. are of special interest within the session.
