Information - GD03 The Earth's Mantle - Geodynamical and Geochemical Models for the Structure and Composition

Event Information
In spite of an active debate over the past years, no dynamical mantle model has as of yet been able to reconcile all geophysical and geochemical observations. Geochemical tracers document significant mantle heterogeneity and the requirement for parts of the mantle to remain isolated for substantial fractions and possibly all of the Earth’s age. Geophysical constraints and dynamical models are most consistent with a mixing flow that involves much of the mantle, although the importance of chemical heterogeneity is increasingly recognized and explored. We invite contributions from an observational, a dynamical, and particularly an integrated perspective that contribute towards a consistent model of the structure and composition of the mantle.
