Information - TS8.1 The Geology of N Africa: Tectonics, sedimentology and climate South of the Mediterranean collision zone
Event Information
Compared to their northern counterparts, the regions south of the Africa-Europe collision zones have been relatively poorly studied. However, they display major tectonic structures ranging from several kms-deep sedimentary basins, to orogenic belts stretching for thousands of kilometers and large deserts. Tectonic structures have widely differing ages and characteristics. In addition, changing climatic conditions, often associated with shifts of the Intertropical Convergence Zone have affected and possibly interacted with the developing orogens and basins.
On these issues, we call contributions from all disciplines with the explicit goal of further boost research in this exciting area.
