Information - CL039 Marine and terrestrial paleoclimate records - recent advances in IODP and ICDP

Event Information
Marine and lake sediment sequences provide unique records of the Earth´s climate fluctuations during the past millennia to million of years. They permit the detection of
climate swings from orbital to subdecadal time scales. This symposium seeks presentations which discuss recent scientific advances in paleoclimate studies from the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) and International Continental Drilling Program (ICDP).

During the last 5 years, a number of ICDP and IODP projects have had a similar focus to
Further improve our mechanistic understanding of paleoclimate dynamics on a variety of
timescales. Despite these common big picture questions, the IODP and ICDP communities seem largely separated. The communication and scientific exchange between the communities needs to improve to advance our science. With this symposium we hope to bring together scientists from both programmes to discuss recent advances in IODP and ICDP based paleoclimate studies.
