EGU is Multilogue – Social Media and Communications

Blogging

Blogs, a shorten version of web log, are online diaries of sorts. A user writes their entry and then interacts with readers through comment. Free providers of blogging sites include blogger.com and wordpress.com. A guide to blogging can be found here.

There is free (unsecured) wireless internet throughout the General Assembly venue; plug points are available throughout the building. International plug adapters can be borrowed from the Austria Center Information Desk for a deposit.

This year a blogroll is being put together of blogs who are discussing issues related to the EGU General Assembly 2011. These are not EGU sanctioned blogs, rather a resource helping attendees know what is out there. If you are a blogger please submit your blog details to us.

There is an official EGU2011 blog which will bring together articles that are in the daily newsletter, highlight media coverage of EGU2011 (traditional, new and social) and occasional voxpops. If you would like to contribute to this official blog please contact Jennifer Holden with your idea.

Twitter

Twitter is social networking and micro-blogging site, it involves 140 character micro-blogs. You can post links and pictures on twitter and re-tweet interesting tweets from others. Hashtags (e.g. #egu2011) are used to link conversations. If you are on twitter please use the hashtag #egu2011 when discussing EGU General Assembly 2011. There is an official twitter feed @egu2011 which will contain information on key events during the General Assembly. The collection of all tweets using #egu2011 can be found, e.g., on TweetChat.com.
