Social events

The conference registration includes two social events, the conference dinner and a boat excursion. For both events, participants can purchase tickets for accompanying persons for €50 per person and event.

Boat excursion to the islands of Brijuni

The boat excursion takes place on Wednesday, 20 September 2017, from 14:30 to 20:00.

The Brijuni islands, one of the true jewels of Istria, are situated almost at the north-western outskirts of Pula’s port. The group of islands consists of two larger islands, Veli and Mali Brijun, and 12 islets. From the Istrian coast the only 3 km wide Fažana channel divides them. Inhabited in the prehistoric period, the islands were particularly valued as a wonderful space in Roman times, when ancient luxury villas were built. Since 1983 the Brijuni islands have been protected and have the status of a national park.
The excursion will start with a bus transfer from the ECSS venue (Hotel Park Plaza Histria). A short boat trip will bring us to the main island, where guides will lead our groups in English through the natural and historical treasures. After the walk on the main islands the tour will bring us back to the ECSS venue via boat and bus transfer.

Conference dinner at the conference venue

The conference dinner at the conference venue takes place on Wednesday, 20 September 2017, from 20:30 to 23:00. During the conference dinner the most prestigious award in the global severe weather research community, the Nikolai Dotzek Award, will be given.
