EGU's Outreach Programme
The EGU outreach programme promotes and advances the Geosciences and Solar System Sciences both within and beyond its core scientific community. Our outreach programme includes amongst others:
- Meeting aid for young and developing country scientists. Each year the EGU offers financial help to hundreds of young scientists and scientists from less favoured nations to participate in its General Assembly.
- Specialist conferences and summer schools at the frontiers of the geosciences. These events aim to bring together leaders in research to discuss the state of their science, to formulate investigative strategies for the future, and to raise the next generation of geoscientists.
- International conferences and workshops on topics with significant socio-economic impact. These are held in and jointly organized with scientists/institutions from regions outside of Europe, and include initiatives such as the flagship Alexander von Humboldt Conferences.
- GIFT – Geosciences Information for Teachers. This initiative bridges the gap between the research community and those teachers educating young classroom audiences in the geosciences.
- EGU and Geosciences news (EGGS). EGGS is a regular news letter with information about the EGU and highlights the Geosciences for all EGU members.
- Geoscience resources. We have a number of outreach activities related to geosciences resources, including images, data, tools and application for shared use.
- Media contacts. These are maintained by a press officer, with regular releases on high impact science published in EGU journals or presented at EGU conferences.
- Contacts with other scientific organizations. The EGU is represented at the meetings of other leading Geosciences organizations, and hosts representatives from many national and international scientific organizations at its general Assemblies.
