Report - ST5.3 Coupling processes in the middle atmosphere, thermosphere and ionosphere (co-listed in AS)
Report
The oral session took place in lecture room 7 on Wednesday, 5 April from 8:30 to 12:00 with the poster session on Monday, 3 April from 13:30 to 15:00. In total, 26 abstracts were accepted and 12 oral (3 solicited) and 14 poster presentations were given. The attendance at the oral session was about 60-70 people. The poster session was less actively visited, due to an overlap with oral sessions of interest for the community.
As intended by the session programme, many presentations combined ground-based, satellite, in-situ, or laboratory data with modeling and theory results. Analyzing atmospheric coupling processes from such different points of view initiated very active discussions during and after the sub-sessions. This and the excellent quality of the presentations proved the crucial role of atmospheric coupling for understanding Earth's middle and upper neutral and ionized atmosphere.
