Report - AS1.02 Numerical Weather Prediction and Data Assimilation (General Session)
Report
Some 48 contributions were accepted for the session. The presentations
were of high
quality and represented fairly evenly all the activity areas specified
in the call for the
session programme.
A whole day was dedicated to AS1.02 with 18 orals in three blocks
followed by
a poster session. This was considered very adequate for the theme.
During the session,
a variable number of attendees were in the lecture hall. I once counted
the number of
attendees, and ended up in 72. It is fair to say that the session
received a very good
response from the EGU participants with many questions and an ample
presence.
The lecture hall was also very good for the purpose of the session.
Session co-convener
expressed his wish to shift the session from Monday to Tuesday or
Wednesday.
A suggestion for the next years session is to approach the numerical
weather prediction
centres (national institutes and international centres) and to encourage
them to submit
general presentations about their activities, as it seems that the
European agencies were
not very well represented in the EGU. This is in contrast to North
American ones which
were present.
