This session is designed to provide comprehensive coverage of this field. Contributions are therefore invited in the following areas: the process of meteor ablation; meteor train spectroscopy; optical and radar detection of meteors; measurements of the meteoroid mass and velocity distribution; physics and chemistry of the metallic layers in the upper mesosphere; sporadic neutral and ionized layers; meteoric smoke formation and its effects in the atmosphere.
