Information - SSP8/CL43/CL33 Closing the gap between geological data and numerical modelling / Oxygen-18 in climate models, observations and palaeo-data (co-organized by CL)

Event Information
Validating climate model performance by comparing output with geological data is critical in reducing the uncertainties in climate predictions. However, robust model-data comparison is seldom achieved because model output is rarely directly comparable with climate proxy data. Numerical modelling of the processes that lead to the formation of the proxy record and its incorporation into Earth System Models is one mechanism of bridging the model-data gap. The identification and development of new types of proxies that record the environmental information required by innovations in Earth System models is another.
In this session we welcome contributions from both climate modellers and palaeoclimate proxy specialists tackling the many facets of the model-data comparison problem. We particularly encourage those developing techniques that are, or can be applied to high-amplitude pre-Quaternary records such as those preserved in the Neogene sediments of the Mediterranean and Paratethys, to report their results.
