In the last few years a growing interest raised in understanding and quantifiying the carbon budget of region and continents. There are today different approaches to address the estimation of carbon budgets. They mainly differ if they are based on direct observation or models and if they are top-down or bottom -up based. The purpose of the session is to review the current status of the methodologies and to present recent updates on the European terrestrial carbon budget and its sectorial analysis.
