Information - SM5 Spiced-up computational seismology
Event Information
Seismic wave propagation is entering a new era due to the increased use of numerical methods. Modern computational techniques in combination with parallel computer architectures allow the simulation of the complete three-dimensional phenomena of wave propagation for realistic complex structures with unprecedented detail. This suggests that the imaging of the Earth's internal structure, the physical description of hydrocarbon reservoirs, the characterization of earthquake rupture processes, and many more will experience an increased resolution and accuracy in the near future. We encourage papers on applications of computational methods (forward and inverse problems) in seismology to realistic problems on all spatial scales and research areas (e.g. global seismology, earthquake scenario simulations, dynamic rupture modelling, reservoir modelling). We also invite any contributions on technical aspects such as grid generation, parallelization, novel methodologies, hybrid approaches and hardware related issues (e.g. GRID computing).
