Information - NH2.05 Integrated Natural Hazard Protection (floods and mass movement): Structural and nonstructural measures – state-of-the-art (co-listed in HS)

Event Information
Looking through the proceedings of past conferences dealing with natural hazards there have been always just a few contributions about the topic "Integrated Natural Hazard Protection (Floods and Massmovement): Structural and non-structural measures – state of the art". Therefore it seems to be necessary to impart the information about the state of the art of natural hazard engineering as well as to present the improvements with new mitigation measures against floods, landslides and debris flows. A focal point should be the combination of structural and non-structural mitigation measures within integrated protection concepts. Beyond all doubt the session should attract scientists as well as practitioners. Especially in the field of landslides and debris flows mitigation a dynamic development has taken place in the Alpine countries in the near past enclosing scientific and engineering methods (strategies) in the sense of an integrated risk management. Within the session all kinds of active, passive, structural, non structural and organisational measures should be concerned. The emphasis lies on the lessons learned, the numerical and physical modelling and in the strategies for risk management concerning landslides and debris flow.
Special attention should be laid on the topic early warning systems and integrated protection concepts.
