Information - ERE4 Advances in CO2 storage in geological systems
Event Information
The session provides a forum for the discussion of the latest advances in the field of underground storage of anthropogenic CO2. Contributions presenting results from national and international R&D projects, fundamental and concept studies, and pilot and large scale projects dealing with the following topics are invited:
(a) Storage formations, their capacity and geographic distribution:
-general site-selection criteria
-site characterisation requirements
-oil and gas fields
-saline aquifers
-coal seams
-other geological media
-matching of CO2 sources and geological storage sites
(b) Storage mechanisms and storage security:
-experimental and modelling studies of flow and transport, thermodynamic and kinetic processes and geochemical interactions
-processes and pathways for leakage of CO2 from geological storage sites
-probability of release from geological storage sites
-monitoring in the deep and shallow subsurface and in the atmosphere
-possible local and regional environmental hazards
-global atmospheric CO2 trajectories for storage and leakage scenarios
-remediation of leaking storage projects
-risk assessment and management
(c) Case studies:
-characterisation and performance prediction for identified sites
-natural geological accumulations of CO2
-industrial analogues for CO2 storage
