Information - GM3.6 Periglacial and paraglacial processes (co-listed in CR)

Event Information
In large parts of arctic and alpine Europe, seasonal freezing or permafrost strongly influence landscape development. This range of different ground thermal conditions, and associated periglacial processes and landforms, display the high geomorphological sensitivity of the European region. Key periglacial processes and landforms include rock glaciers, solifluction sheets and lobes, debris flows, ice-wedges, rock and snow avalanches, weathering and talus production. Monitoring networks have been initiated to improve the scientific understanding of the periglacial processes and landform development. Climatic change largely controls the activity of the periglacial zone. Such changes are documented mainly by dated periglacial landforms and sediments. In this session we invite geologic, geomorphic and geotechnical papers to improve our understanding of cold-climate periglacial processes and landforms in Europe.
