Information - SPM13 Effects of climate variability and trends on Venice and its lagoon

Event Information
This event aims to provide a forum for discussing climate factors crucial for the present and future of Venice and the Venetian Lagoon environment and to promote future scientific actions for its study.

Subjects to be discussed are the present climate trends, the future climate change, the processes responsible for them and the impacts they might have on the lagoon hydrology, ecosystems and the hazards posed to the city itself. Future sea level rise is a potentially dangerous factor which deserves special attention, but also precipitation, temperature, winds, waves, and storm urges need to be considered.

Participation is free and informal. However an email confirming your attendance would be appreciated.

Preliminary List of Solicited Speakers
Preliminary program:
- P.Lionello, Univ. of Salento, Italy:
“Venice and the north Adriatic region:Climate variability, trends and change
- M.Tsimplis, NOCS, UK:
“Venice: storminess, sea level trends and climate change
- L.Carbognin, ISMAR, Italy
“Overview of relative sea level in Venice”
- M.Marani, Univ. of Padua, Italy
“Relative sea level rise and bio-morphodynamic equilibria in the Venice Lagoon”
