Information - G8/NH11.02 Advances in GPS and InSAR techniques for geodynamic modelling and analysis of natural hazard (co-organized by G) (co-listed in GD)
Event Information
The scope of the session is to present new developments and applications of GPS and Synthetic Aperture Radar interferometry (InSAR) methodologies for investigating and monitoring of natural hazard phenomena. Emphasis will be given to advances in differential InSAR techniques and to combined GPS/InSAR studies of earthquake deformation, volcanic land movements (related or not to eruptions), landslides, etc…
The study of surface deformation and related driving mechanisms requires the monitoring of such catastrophic events with multi-temporal InSAR techniques and dense GPS networks. The use of such instruments with signal processing approaches and field control is critical to develop the detection and measurements of surface deformation and provide some constraints on the mitigation of natural disasters.
Papers are presented on the numerical modelling of source parameters and understanding of related physical processes that contribute to the assessment of natural hazards. There are also contributions focused on the development of innovative InSAR algorithms and applications for studying both single deformation episodes and the evolution of time varying deformation. These include InSAR time series analyses, stacking, wide-swath interferometry, and atmospheric mitigation techniques.
