Information - SSS19 Soil remediation processes: New insights into the role of mineral surfaces and bioaccessibility of residues( co-listed in BG) (including Philippe Duchafour Medal Lecture)
Reactive soil minerals such as phyllosilicates, Fe-, Al-,Mn-, Ti-oxides, and zeolites play an omportant role in several natural and engineered soil decontamination processes. One aim of this session is to provide insight in the most recent advances in topics related to the use of natural and modified soil minerals in decontamination processes. Process-driven and technology- driven contributions are welcome to be presented.
The session also aims to address quantitative and qualitative aspects of fate and behaviour of aged pollutants determined by their persistence and bioaccessibility. Results from laboratory studies to characterize these properties are often not transferable to field conditions and thus are often not suitable to predict the long-term fate under outdoor conditions. Approaches using physical soil fractionation techniques and chemical extraction methods to elucidate the behaviour of binding and remobilization of aged pollutants in soil and their remobilization potential are of special interest.
