Information - GD22 Frontiers in Global Tectonics - Nonconventional Ideas and Interpretations

Event Information
New ideas and interpretations of the global dynamics of our planet are welcome. The present global tectonic framework, plate tectonics, suffers of many incompleteness, paradoxes and anomalies - in the Kuhn sense - and the purpose of this session is to encourage the formulation of new ideas that go beyond the accepted paradigm. Discussions about the meaning of the high velocity mantle regions revealed through seismic tomographies, analysis of the global databanks and possible correlations among many kind of data and phenomena should permit new ideas and lines of thinking.
Inspections of problematic tectonic regions of our planet, like Mediterranean, Vrancea Carpathian region, Caribbean etc. and possible new unitary interpretations – not necessarily assuming the large scale subduction concept or a collisional origin of foldbelts – are among the aims of this session that mainly wish to promote a new creativity in Earth Sciences based on factual data.
