Spatial and temporal distribution of Recent and Fossil submarine landslide deposits provides a better understanding of related processes such as seismicity, climate change, gas hydrate dissociation, basin evolution, and is useful in reservoir characterization. Submarine landslide scars impose additional constraints for offshore development and destroy and/or create specific benthic habitats. This session, inline with the objectives of the UNESCO sponsored IGCP-511 (Submarine Mass Movements and Their Consequences), aims to bring together specialists from various fields of expertise to explore the state of the art in submarine landslides research. We welcome abstracts addressing topics related to submarine mass movements such as dating, geometry and architecture of deposits, modeling of failure initiation and post-failure evolution, industry or applied case-histories, application of new methodologies, and measurement of physical properties relevant to determining submarine slope stability.
