  Information - AW3 Air-Sea Interactions

Event Information
Dynamical and thermodynamical interactions between the atmosphere and the sea surface have a broad range of direct and indirect effects on the atmospheric and oceanic dynamics over a wide range of temporal and spatial scales. This session will address both experimental and modelling studies on the interplay of air-sea processes at different vertical and horizontal scales offshore and in coastal areas.
The focus will be on:
- Processes responsible for fluxes of momentum, energy, heat, spray, moisture and gases at the air-sea interface over the ocean, in coastal zones and lakes
(including role of waves, swell, etc)
- Fluxes determination from in-situ measurements and remote sensing techniques and their parameterisations in models
- The effect of sea spray on the heat flux exchange mechanisms
- The effect of atmospheric waves on the marine boundary layer structure
- The effect of air-sea interaction on the development and maintenance of meso-scale features such as sea breezes, "medicanes" and tornadoes and seasonal variability.
