Information - AC08 Information systems in climatology

Event Information
The society has an increasing need for information about weather and climate, and this demands efficient information systems for managing and analysing climatological and meteorological information at different temporal and spatial scales. This session addresses the use of information systems and data management tools in climatology, emphasising potentials, and strengths as well as the limitations of such technology. Papers describing technological, methodological and theoretical achievements in these fields are welcomed.

In this context the contributions on following topics are invited:

· Atmospheric Data Model
· Pre- and post-processing applications using GIS.
· Developments in data management and administration related to meteorological purposes:
· Databases,
· (Meta)Data standards and formats (storage and exchange)
· Data infrastructure
· Interoperability
· Data policies (EC, WMO, ECOMET, national)
· Developments of GIS based applications for visualisation and spatial analysis of meteorological and climatological fields:
· Data access and visualisation
· Data quality control
· „Tailored” (expert-) applications for spatial analysis.
· Relevant GIS developments
· Web-technology - distribution of climatological information using Web Map Services
· Temporal GIS

Keywords: GIS, meteorology, and climatology, Quality Control, interpolation, scaling techniques
