Information - OR3 International Year of Astronomy 2009

Event Information
The International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA2009) will be a global celebration of astronomy and its contributions to society and culture, stimulating worldwide interest not only in astronomy, but in science in general. In 2009 we celebrate Galileo’s discoveries. His discoveries were of extremely importance for our understanding of the Solar System. Galileo didn’t only start the Scientific Revolution; he was also the father of Planetary Sciences. Europlanet wants to play a role in this celebration and is already preparing some activities and events for the following years.
Planetary Sciences have a big impact in the public understanding of astronomy, Europlanet wants to take advantage of this privileged position and motivate the science community for an active participation in the International Year of Astronomy 2009 European activities.
In this session we will review the status of the IYA2009 organization and discuss the future plans for an effective educational and public outreach strategy.
