Information - AS3.08 Aerosol chemical composition and water uptake

Event Information
Event Information

The planned session will bring together modellers and experimentalist who are interested in recent developments in atmospheric aerosol research. The session will focus on the chemical composition of atmospheric aerosols, which includes multiphase partitioning of multicomponent particles, i.e. the partitioning of the aerosol compounds and aerosol precursor gases between the gas and aerosol phases (liquid or crystal) - a prerequisite for aerosol-cloud interactions. The session welcomes papers on measuring and/or modeling the chemical composition of atmospheric aerosols, including:

1) Aerosol associated water, water uptake, or hygroscopic growth of inorganic and/or organic particles

2) The role of organic aerosols on the associated water and hygroscopic growth

3) New measurement techniques to assess the chemical composition, including water

4) Short/Long-term observations, including satellite data of derived properties (e.g. aerosol optical depth) which might help to improve modeling and model validation

5) Field studies that perform a closure of experiments and model results

6) Advances in our theoretical understanding of aerosol dynamics and thermodynamics to improve the aerosol composition and water calculations

7) Forecasts and predictability - strategies in air pollution modeling with respect to aerosol composition and water, hygroscopic growth and/or visibility
