Internet is heavily used, both by the National Meteorological Services and the commercial sector, to provide information to the general public and to specific users. Faster connections, a growing Internet user community and new technologies, like WebTV, will no doubt cause Internet to be the most important meteorological communication channel in the near future, if it hasn’t acquired this position already.
This session addresses opportunities and implications of this development. We particularly encourage high impact weather contributions, but other presentations, e.g. on user demands, business opportunities, practical aspects like reliability during peak loads and the use of extranet to reach specific user groups, are also welcome. On a different level, over all strategic aspects concerning the long term implications of Internet for meteorology may also be addressed.
