Information - BG6.5 Geomicrobiology: geochemical and molecular interactions between microbes, minerals and metals - from cells to environmental systems (including Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky Medal Lecture)

Event Information
This session will focus on the impact of microbial activity on the weathering of minerals and materials or on the formation of minerals in situ or in laboratory experiments. Contributions are invited that focus on a variety of topics such as biofilm formation on mineral surfaces, mechanisms involved in weathering, microorganisms and nucleation in biomineralization,bacterial/fungal interactions with natural and artificial materials, microbial-clays interactions and many others. The session will emphasis both classical research and molecular approaches on fundamental processes linked to the dissolution and degradation of minerals and materials and formation of new minerals under the influence of microbes.
