Information - TM01 An European View of Desertification. DeserNet. European Network for Research Desertification

Event Information
Mitigating the effects of drought, combating desertification and alleviating poverty in drylands are challenges whose importance should be sufficiently recognized within the context of global environmental changes and sustainable development.

As members of an interdisciplinary groups of scientists, active in basic and applied research on land degradation/desertification we intend to coordinate our activities in view of possible collaboration at national and international level.

For this purpose, the European DESERTNET is open since September 2005 to all scientists wanting to join our association and collaborate with us. The purpose of the Townhall meeting is (i) to have an open discussion related to the current state-of-the-art of the Desertification processes, assessment and mitigation; (ii) to show the DESERTNET organization to the EGU participants and (iii) to develop future research programs within the scientific community and with stakeholders and policy-makers.
