Information - SSS1 Micromorphology of weathering and mineral neoformation in soils and regoliths (co-listed in VGP)
Event Information
Micromorphology is the study of undisturbed soil and regolith materials with microscopic techniques. Whereas destructive chemical and physical methods only allow to identify minerals formed during weathering or pedogenesis, the study of the fabric of mineral neoformations in situ makes it possible to obtain information on their interrelationship, from which a relative chronology may be deduced, even as specific environmental conditions. A variety of methods, ranging from optical microscopy to different types of microprobes can be applied.
