Information - F01 Forum on the Strategy for the Global Geodetic Observing System: Meeting the Requirements of a Global Society on a Changing Planet in 2020 (GGOS2020)

Event Information
The Global Geodetic Observing System (GGOS) of the International
Association of Geodesy (IAG) is carrying out a strategy process
under the title "The Global Geodetic Observing System: Meeting the
Requirements of a Global Society on a Changing Planet in 2020", denoted
shortly as GGOS2020 (see http://geodesy.unr.edu/ggos/ggos2020/). The
main output of this process, which started in April 2006, are a brief
Strategy Document aiming at the broader public, including decision
makers, funding agencies, and the relevant international programs, and a
comprehensive Reference Document with the anticipated audience being
those implementing, operating, and using GGOS. The GGOS2020 process is
part of the Task AR-07-03 included in the Work Plan 2007-2009 of the
Group on Earth Observation (GEO).

The GGOS2020 Forum aims to give the broad scientific community assembled
at the EGU meeting the opportunity to discuss the Strategy and Reference
Documents with the GGOS2020 lead authors. The lead authors will briefly
introduce the results of the GGOS2020 process and then engage in a
discussion with the audience. The GGOS2020 Forum is open for all EGU
participants.
