Information - C0.1 The Transition between Science Models and International Standard Models (ISO)

Event Information
The International Standards Organization (ISO) Technical Committee 20 SubCommittee 14 (TC20/SC14) is responsible for standardization related to space vehicles, including "standardization for management of space programs, design, test, production, launch, maintenance, operation, and disposal of space vehicles and for the environment in which the space programs operate". Working Group 4 of SC14 is responsible for the preparation of space environment standards. While these support space system engineering, they should be based on the best available scientific information. The C0.1 session, “The Transition between Science Models and International Standard Models (ISO),” will provide a forum for discussion of required standards, proposed and draft standards, relationships with reference models, scientific and technical background of standards, and related questions. All space environment domains will be covered, including Earth's atmosphere, ionosphere, thermosphere, magnetic field and radiation belts, solar irradiance, solar and geomagnetic activity, solar energetic particles, galactic cosmic rays, and dust (interplanetary and lunar). C0.1 will feature solicited presentations, contributed presentations, a poster session and a focused discussion session. More information regarding ISO TC20/SC14/WG4 activities can be found at the web site http://www.plasma.oma.be/iso/ .
