  Information - SSP12 Sclerochronology: A powerful tool for environmental reconstruction (co-listed in BG)

Event Information
The study of the physical and chemical variations in accretionary hard parts of marine and terrestrial organisms, and the temporal context in which they formed (sclerochronology) has become a promising tool for reconstructing environmental change on both geological and archaeological time scales. Growth pattern analysis (e.g. using physical or chemical patterns in annual growth rings) aims at reconstructing the life history traits of the organisms, as well as for providing high-resolution records of environmental and climatic change through space and time. However, these records are often complicated by vital effects, which can only be accounted for when we have a mechanistic understanding of proxy incorporation. We welcome all contributions, including both field and laboratory studies, using sclerochronology and/or high-resolution geochemistry in biogenic carbonates, such as corals, molluscs, brachiopods, otoliths, etc, that contribute to progress in this research area.
