Information - SSP23 Geoinformatics in Stratigraphy, Sedimentology and Paleontology

Event Information
This sessions introduces the newly founded International Coalition for Geoinformatics (iGeoInfo, http://www.igeoinfo.org) as a global forum on geoinformatics in sedimentary geology and paleobiology. iGeoInfo was launched at the 32nd International Geological Congress in Florence, Italy. In this session we shall present and discuss a collaborative international effort that focuses on the next generation research and education and that provides a forum for both individuals and organizations involved in conducting and sponsoring this research. The presentations will be about current geoscience database and information management projects and strategies and discuss issues concerning the necessary information technology (i.e., database interoperability, data sharing, etc.), the nature of their geoscience communities, and their information needs. Activities will be coordinated through the International Coalition for Geoinformatics (iGeoInfo, http://www.igeoinfo.org).
