Information - AC07 Climate reconstruction and monitoring

Event Information
Climate reconstruction and monitoring have common needs: the availability and interpretation of climate observations on a time-scale as long as possible and preferably with a high temporal and geographical resolution and without inhomogeneities. Or more poetic: "understanding the past is a lesson for the future".

Suggestions for contributions are:

Climate reconstruction (convenor A. van Engelen):

  • Reconstructions based on modern instrumental observations
  • Reconstruction based on historical instrumental observations
  • Reconstructions based on proxy evidences
  • Data Rescue activities

Common topic:
Interpretation of climatic timeseries: trends, variability, extreme events

Monitoring (convenor S. Rösner)

  • Securing the continuation of the monitoring site of long-term climate records
  • Monitoring based on classical in situ meteorological observations
  • Monitoring based on remotely sensed meteorological observations
  • Monitoring based on non meteorological observations of the climate
  • Applications on climate monitoring
  • Relationship between climate monitoring and weather monitoring
  • International organization's needs in climate monitoring
  • Responding to the "Implementation Plan for the Global Observing System for Climate in Support of the UNFCCC" (GCOS-92)
  • Monitoring of Essential Climate Variables (ECVs as in GCOS-82 or GCOS-92)
