Information - ST17 Synoptic measurements in the magnetosphere: first results form Cluster and Double Star
Event Information
The Double Star mission is a collaboration between the Chinese National Space Admministration and the European Space Agency. It consists of two spacecraft, one equatorial launched on 29 December 2003 and one polar launched on 25 July 2004. The two spacecraft carry spare/refurbished Cluster instruments as well as Chinese instruments and their orbits were synchronised with Cluster so that all six spacecraft are studying the same region of near-Earth space at the same time. The coupling between small scales and large scales can, for the first time, be observed, with Cluster looking at small scales from a few 100 to a few 1000 km, and Cluster and Double Star looking at large scales around 5 Earth radii. The regions under study are the bow shock, magnetopause, polar cusp and neutral sheet/auroral zone. The session will be devoted to the presentation of the first results from Double Star and Cluster. Studies using multi-point measurements or in combination with Ground based, other ISTP spacecraft and theory are welcome.
Contributed papers are very welcome and may be scheduled as either oral or poster presentations.
