Information - HS15 Tools, approaches and experiences in water resources management: The EU Water Framework Directive (co-sponsored by IAHS-ICWRS and HELP)

Event Information
The Water framework directive of the EU requires nations to look at the sustainability of the water resources utilisation in much stricter way than was custom to date in most of the EU countries, both the old and newly included countries. The implementation of the directive will require science-based tools to assess the status of the resources and the water using activities that affect them in an integrated fashion.. This session aims at collecting experiences on case studies and approaches that have been implemented, developed or applied, which water managers and scientists could share. The scope of the session is both technical and institutional, whereby attention is given to both water system analysis and the development of institutional arrangements for implementing the requirements of the framework directive.
