Information - C2.2 Tides, Waves and Coupling Processes from Troposphere to Ionosphere

Event Information
This session builds on previous studies of atmospheric coupling processes by emphasizing gravity wave coupling, wave-tidal interactions and planetary wave forcing throughout the neutral atmosphere, including their influences on the ionosphere. The session will comprise several invited, contributed oral and poster presentations and welcomes new studies focusing on a broad range of atmospheric coupling processes. In particular, new observation, modeling and theoretical studies in the following areas are sought:

1. Wave coupling processes from the troposphere to the middle atmosphere and ionosphere.
2. Gravity wave sources, spatial-spectral characteristics and wave filtering processes.
3. Energy and momentum transfer by gravity waves (particularly small-scale waves) and their influences on the background circulation.
4. Wave-tidal interactions in the mesosphere – lower thermosphere and ionosphere region.
5. Planetary waves and their influences on the ionospheric E and F regions.
6. Chemical and dynamical coupling processes.

In addition new results on the effects of tides and gravity wave seeding of ionospheric disturbances via wave penetration and secondary wave generation are most welcome.
