Doing good science is nowadays considered insufficient. Science outreach is important and will play an ever greater role in the coming years as a link between the scientific community and society and supporting formal and informal science education. The communication of achieved scientific results is now seen as a natural and mandatory activity to inform the public, attract funding, and attract science students.
However, communicating science with the public is never an easy task. Science communication is a field renowned for its "difficulties". One often wonders how to best convey the excitation of discovery together with some basic knowledge of present-day science. This session aims at discussing techniques and presenting some efficient tools at communicating science, with emphasis on planetary sciences.
The following topics will be addressed:
- Planetary exploration: an inspiring adventure
- Art and science, or can a multidisciplinary approach help outreach?
- Science on TV
- Playing with science/ hand-on experiments
- Planetariums and science centers, a key tool for educational and public outreach:
- Investigating some real astronomical data
- The shock of images
- The Web as a Science Communication Tool
- Astronomy and Planetary Sciences
- Outreach for Kids: Using Informal Education to Support Education
- Multilingual outreach products
The session will include invited talks, contributed oral talks and posters. Oral and poster papers on the topics listed above are invited to this session.
