  Information - AC05 Synoptic climatology

Event Information
The session addresses all topics of synoptic climatology. It covers four
main areas: cyclone climatology, classifications and weather types,
downscaling and gridded datasets.
The cyclone climatology includes analyses of cyclone tracks,
life time, intensity, impacts on the environment and society,
relationship with large scale weather patterns, analysis of present
trends and future scenarios. Contributions on theoretical developments
of classification methods are welcome, and so are their various
applications, such as climate zonations, identification and analysis of
circulation and weather types, and synoptic catalogues. The session
further includes presentations on downscaling as a tool for evaluation
and reconstruction of historical climate, gap filling in time
series, analysis of extremes and non-climatic variables. Also
intercomparison between downscaling methods and their validation is part
of this session. Finally the session aims to analyze data quality,
representativity and homogeneity of gridded datasets, addressing the
issues of their validation and uncertainty.
