Information - SSP19 Submarine Mass Movements and their Consequences (co-listed in NH)
Event Information
The UNESCO sponsored IGCP-511 session aims at bringing a worldwide
perspective to submarine mass movements and their consequences. One of the
objectives is to involve participants from academia and industry from
countries where risk assessments of continental margins areas are an
important issue. Themes are related to the fundamental processes of
submarine mass movements, regional differences, consequences of mass
movements, such as tsunamis and impacts on seabed structures or impacts on
coastal lowlands. New frontiers in submarine slide studies with a focus on
potential IOPD drilling sites for the upcoming years, slope instability as
a function of geological setting and climate change, and criteria for
triggering a slide using modelling approaches are just some of the
important topics for increasing our knowledge.
