Information - ES2 Earth System Science Data Access, Distribution and Use for Education and Research

Event Information
Earth System Science Data (ESSD) collection, distribution, archival, analysis, visualization and discovery requirements for enabling distributed and scalable solutions in the Education and Research sectors. The technologies and services that enable effective, secure and reliable access and sharing of ESSD over well-accepted distributed computing platforms (e.g. the Internet, the World Wide Web, open Grid platforms, etc.) will be presented.

The fields covered at this Session include Web technology, grid technology, multimedia, data models, ontology, interoperability solutions, distributed computing, telematics and digital libraries.

Appropriate topics will include, but are not limited to:

General
• Innovative requirements to access and share ESSD for Education and Research
• ESSD architectures and design
• Interoperability of data systems across geosciences
• Security requirements and solutions for ESSD access and sharing Technologies and services
• Web services models and protocols for ESSD access and sharing
• Grid services models for ESSD access and sharing
• Application of web service technology for ESSD visualization
• Application of Grid technology for sharing and accessing Earth Observations and model datasets Applications (ESSD for Education and Research)
• Applications and experience reports
• Application of web service technology for ESSD discovery and access
• ESSD catalog solutions
• Provision of ESSD to various communities of users: e.g., Digital Library examples

Data model and encoding topics
• ESSD models interoperability
• ESSD and GIS data interoperability
• ESSD models and ontologies for new education and research application areas
• Semi structured models to enable ESSD collection, storage and distribution
• Scientific Markup Languages (SciML) for encoding and cataloging ESSD
• Earth System Science Metadata models and their interoperability issues Catalogs, Directories and Metadata
• Catalogs, Directories and Metadata for ESSD: new development and experiences
