The society has an increasing need for information about weather and climate, and this demands efficient information systems for analysing and managing climatological and meteorological information at different temporal and spatial scales. This session addresses the use of information systems, data management and data analysis tools in meteorology, emphasising potentials, and strengths as well as the limitations of such technology. Papers describing technological, methodological and theoretical achievements in these fields are welcomed.
In this context the contributions on following topics are invited:
Atmospheric Data Model
Meteorological metadata for spatial applications
GIS applications used for data pre- and post-processing
Developments in data management and administration related to meteorological and climatological applications:
• Databases
• Databases for spatial data (vector layers, grided databases)
• (Meta)Data standards and formats (storage and exchange)
• Data infrastructure
• Interoperability
• Data policies (INSPIRE, WMO, ECOMET, national…)
Developments of GIS based applications for visualisation and spatial analysis of meteorological and climatological fields:
• Data access and visualization
• Data quality control
• „Tailored” (expert-) applications for spatial analysis
• GIS models in meteorology
• Spatial interpolation methods for meteorological variables
Temporal GIS
Relevant GIS developments
Keywords: GIS, meteorology, climatology, spatial data, grided data, interpolation, scaling techniques, INSPIRE
